ASWP – How to Create and Show Recurring Events in WordPress Using Sugar Calendar

Creating Recurring Events in WordPress

Recurring events can streamline your operations by automating tasks. However, WordPress doesn’t natively support recurring events, requiring a calendar plugin. Several plugins exist, but **AltShift** recommends **Sugar Calendar** for its ease of use and powerful features.

Benefits of Recurring Events

Having a structured way to manage recurring events offers significant advantages. It helps maintain consistency and provides a more reliable experience for your audience. For example, a recurring event for a weekly play ensures its smooth operation. Recurring events also contribute to a clear and organized calendar, making it easy for visitors to find the information they need. By creating the event once, it will automatically repeat on the calendar. Furthermore, promoting recurring events encourages repeat visitors and fosters a loyal following. Regularly marketing them helps establish a consistent online presence across various platforms.

Creating an Events Calendar in WordPress

To create a recurring event, you need to install and activate the **Sugar Calendar** plugin. Follow the guide on installing WordPress plugins. After activation, go to **Calendar » Settings** from the WordPress dashboard and enter your license key. You can find the key in your **Sugar Calendar** account area. Then, create a calendar. While **Sugar Calendar** adds a calendar by default, you can create a new one if needed. To do so, go to **Sugar Calendar » Calendars** and click the **’+ Add Calendar’** button. Provide a name, change the slug, add a description, select a parent calendar, and choose a color. Once done, click **’Add New Calendar’**.

Creating a Recurring Event in WordPress

Now that your calendar is ready, create a recurring event. Go to **Sugar Calendar » Events** and click the **’+ Add New Event’** button. Provide an event name and enter details under the **’Duration’** tab, setting the start and end date and time for the event. You can also include details in the **’Details’** section. Switch to the **’Recurrence’** tab. By default, the **’Repeat’** option is set to **’Never’**, but you can change this. Click the **’Repeat’** dropdown menu and choose whether you want the event to repeat daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. You can also configure the number of repetitions, days, and the end date. Additionally, you can add a location and link for your event. **Sugar Calendar** also allows you to set up and sell tickets for events online. After entering all event details, select your preferred calendar from the right panel and click **’Publish’**.

Adding the Calendar to Your Website

To display the recurring events calendar, edit or create a new post or page in your WordPress dashboard. In the content editor, click the **’+’** icon to add the **’Events Calendar’** block. The calendar will appear in the editor. Preview how it looks and then publish or update your page. Visit your website to view the calendar with the recurring events in action.

Quotes vary wildly—from a $500 freelancer on the internet to a $50,000 agency proposal.
